In Japan, community schools were mandated by the Act on the Organization and Operation of Local Education Administration in 2017. This law prescribed the role of municipalities in the development and administration of social education in schools and that of Kominkan staff in facilitating the relationship between the schools and region. This paper examines the effects of this Act and the current situation in Yoneyama Kominkan in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture.
