Abstract:
Since the country’s economic reform and opening-up, lifelong education in China has made tremendous progress in both theory and practice with unique Chinese characteristics. A historical review shows that it has, based on localization, progressed from conceptual introduction to policy implementation and legislation. Experience in developing China’s lifelong education is also reflected in the government’s leadership and vigorous promotion, especially in guaranteeing citizens’ right to learn and providing non-utilitarian value. Therefore, it has received positive responses from the public and formed a state of collaboration with the government. Also, academia provides a theoretical basis for the development of lifelong education in practice. The future orientation aims to construct a modern education system that serves lifelong learning for all people, as proposed in China’s Education Modernization 2035. At the same time, it also intends to promote China’s lifelong education and contribute experience to the popularization of lifelong education in the world from several aspects such as the advancement of theoretical research, the deepening of practical results, and the improvement of institutional mechanisms.
